Spirolo

dead-skip

A skipped test that nothing tracks.

advisoryINSUFFICIENT

18 / 18 true, 95% Wilson interval 0.82 to 1.00, on 7 open-source projects.

Shown by default at info. Gates only if you raise its severity.

What it reports

A test is skipped unconditionally (it.skip, describe.skip, .todo, .fixme, or skip(true) at its definition), so it never runs, and no issue reference tracks why: no #123, owner/repo#123, issue URL or KEY-123 ticket in its title, its skip reason, a trailing comment or the comment lines just above it. A focused test (.only) is reported too, since it skips every other case.

Example

it.skip('retries after a 503', async () => {
  // ...
});

A skip with a visible condition (it.skipIf(process.platform === 'win32')) is listed as context, not reported. A skip scoped to CI (it.skipIf(process.env.CI)) is still reported.

What to do

Link the ticket that justifies the skip, in a comment above it or in its reason. Or fix the test and remove the skip, or delete it if it is dead.

Make it gate

It reports at info until you raise it:

// .spirolorc.jsonc
{ "rules": { "dead-skip": "warn" } }

spirolo explain dead-skip prints the same claim and status from your installed binary.
